The epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and osteoporosis necessitate a focused approach to measurement of parameters that are both causes and consequences of these diseases.
The UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, David Geffen School of Medicine, and the UCLA School of nursing have teamed up to offer state-of-the-art assessment of body composition (fat and muscle mass), bone mineral density, heart endothelial function, basal metabolic rate, and cardiovascular and resistance exercise performance.
The core has assessed a wide variety of populations including: heart failure patients, competitive cyclists, obese menopausal women at risk for breast cancer, young collegiate multi-ethnic athletes, morbidly obese young and middle aged adults, cognitively impaired adults, adults at risk for osteoporosis, adults at risk for diabetes, and adults with inflammatory bowel disease.
The Human Performance Laboratory is housed on the first floor of Warren Hall. We welcome investigators seeking advanced and highly accurate measurements of human performance.
